About the design of this mug

Similar to the Westcoast mug, but with a hand-sculpted Kiwi design on the outside, this unique design makes for the perfect mug or gift item to give to someone.

From the moment you wrap both hands around this vessel, you are immediately transported to a place or memory.  This is what inspired me to name the design of the Westcoast Mug.

The look and texture of the vessel reminds you of somewhere you have either been, or a place you wish to experience. It’s comforting and the connection to this vessel has meaning.

As you sip your warm latte or beverage of choice, this grogged black stoneware clay of the Westcoast Mug will transport you straight to the long black volcanic beach of Piha, which is on New Zealand’s rugged west coast of the north island.

The tactile nature of this mug will soothe, comfort and soak the weary with whatever beverage is poured into it. 

The mug’s grogged black clay body and smooth glassy texture is a sensory experience you will not forget. 

The dripping brown and green glaze is reminiscent of the lush green foliage that spills down the dark volcanic cliffs and hills of this rugged coastline.   

The West Coast mug is a sensory experience that will remind locals of a place they respect, understand and love so much. 

 It will also remind visitors of the beautiful, and unforgiving western landscape of New Zealand, and in particular, Piha Beach.

Handmade

Not one design is the same. I may decide to add a similar item, but it will always be unique. Each piece becomes a unique item with characteristics and marks left by the maker and the kiln.

Foodsafe

My homeware is all food-safe. This means that there are no harmful chemicals in the purchased glazes I use (lead free and food safe).  For the specialty glazes I mix which i mix I follow food safe recipes that do not use any lead or other toxic chemicals that could leak.
